Originally shared by Mind Meld Psychotherapy, this message remains a vital part of our mission at OSO Wellness as we continue our commitment to culturally informed care and community healing.

Today, on Indigenous Peoples Day, we celebrate the rich histories, enduring traditions, and deep cultural contributions of Indigenous communities across the globe. At OSO Wellness, we also recognize that honoring these communities includes advocating for their well-being—especially when it comes to mental health.

Indigenous peoples have long endured the weight of historical trauma, systemic inequities, and the intergenerational impacts of colonization. These realities continue to shape mental health outcomes, access to care, and the ways healing is experienced in Indigenous communities today.

At the time of its original publication, our practice (then Mind Meld Psychotherapy) was proud to partner with Indian Health Services (IHS) to provide trauma-informed, culturally respectful mental health care to Indigenous individuals. Today, that work continues through OSO Wellness with the same dedication and expanded reach.

Here’s why mental health support remains essential—especially within Indigenous communities:

  • Healing Historical Trauma: Generational trauma often remains unspoken but deeply felt. Therapy can be a powerful tool in processing pain and reclaiming strength.

  • Culturally Informed Care: We recognize that effective support means respecting Indigenous knowledge, traditions, and belief systems. Our providers work to honor culture while addressing modern mental health needs.

  • Reducing Financial Barriers: Through contracts with IHS, our providers help reduce out-of-pocket costs, making therapy more accessible for Indigenous clients.

  • Breaking Stigma: Observances like Indigenous Peoples Day offer an opportunity to normalize conversations about mental health—and to remind those who may be struggling that seeking help is not weakness, but courage.

  • Promoting Resilience: Mental health care isn't just about managing distress. It's about building strength, fostering community, and thriving despite adversity.

As OSO Wellness continues this journey, we carry forward the values that shaped MMP: cultural humility, clinical integrity, and a belief that mental health care must be as diverse and dynamic as the people we serve.

🧡 On this Indigenous Peoples Day, we honor the resilience, wisdom, and healing of Indigenous peoples—and reaffirm our commitment to providing care that uplifts every story and every identity.
